Product Review: Calla Lily by California Exotics

Ooo, what’s that?

It’s a multi-functional dual stimulator by California Exotics called the Calla Lily.  And boy, is it ever multi-functional.

What’d it come in?

The usual crushed white cardboard box so much of Cal Exotics stuff comes in.

How’s it made?

Measuring in at ten and a quarter inches with a diameter of one and one-half inches, this toy is big. It claims an insertable length of five and one-half inches, but mine measures closer to six.

It’s made of clear phthalates and latex free TPR, and is hypoallergenic.  It’s multi-functional, and multi-speed, and claims to be waterproof.  And it has two -Yes, two!- vibrating bullets.  A teeny one located at the tip and a larger one in the clit “bud”.   Both are rather powerful and rather loud.

The shaft is decorated with lily-like flowers and leaves, and curves slightly for g-spot stimulation.  And there’s a sort of pistil-like protrusion just before the curved tip.

The handle is made of hard plastic.  The bottom unscrews to reveal the plastic battery compartment, which you can easily pull out by way of the little red ribbon tied to it.  It takes three AA batteries, and the plastic compartment shows which way each should be installed.

On the handle are six buttons.  One to turn the thing on and off, one to switch between functions, and four to control the speed of rotation and vibration intensity.  The toy has eight rotation and vibration speeds, with two pulsation variables.  There’s a bit of a learning curve with this toy, but once you figure out the controls, and what your body enjoys, you’re good to go.

What’s it for?

I feel remiss just calling this toy a “dual stimulator”, but that’s what it is.  It’s meant to simultaneously stimulate your clitoris and g-spot.  And I’ve heard tell of it doing that almost hands free.  But not for me.

How is it?

material went all wonky
head’s tilting
loud

No, sir.  I don’t like it.

First, let me say that I’m not sure I’m ever going to really enjoy rotating toys.  That whole “arm-going-round-and-round” thing distracts me every time.  And I’m not always huge on vaginal vibrations.  So I sort of had an idea I wouldn’t like this toy, anyway.  I mean, who’s gonna pay $109 for a tiny TPR-covered bullet? Not I.

But it’s worse than that.  Ready?

I’ve used this toy once.  Before you get your panties in a bunch, let me tell you that “once” for me is synonymous with “interchangeably with other toys during a twelve-hour mutual masturbation session with M”.  So probably, I actually used it five or six times throughout the night.  I washed it between each use, and when I was finished with it.  Then I left it on my desk, like I do everything else that needs reviewing.

Since that night, the toy material has become foggy.  I thought it was one of the two toy cleaners I owned, and tried a mild soap instead, but it’s still foggy.

The “head” is starting to twist and lean to the left.  There are holes forming in the top of the clit bullet.  And the TPR is getting all wrinkly and warped near the handle.

While this toy is supposed to be waterproof, I have not tested it in water.  And I won’t. Why? The TPR sleeve lifts away from the plastic handle like it’s nothing.  Somehow, I think the little black washer meant to protect the innards from water won’t protect the toy from having a completely unsealed sleeve, though I suppose I could be wrong.

While I do own a couple silicone based lubes, I don’t use them for anything but massage, so it’s not a case of lube mix-up fouling up my toy.  I suppose it could have been something on my desk, but all that’s on my desk is paper.

Maybe it’s a case of me just getting a bad batch.  It happens.  But regardless, this toy will probably make its way to the circular file.

Anything else I should know?

Soap and water to clean this toy, and water based lube.

Make sure your TPR sleeve doesn’t lift off the base before submerging it.

Find a better place to store it than on your desk.  Maybe a bag… or something.

Where’d ya get it?

California Exotics sent me the Calla Lily free of charge, in exchange for an honest review.  In business for fifteen years, California Exotics is a female owned and operated company dedicated to “designing and creating consistently superior toys for women”.  They’re dedicated to “turning fantasy into reality” and, to that end, have developed new, high-quality materials and “state of the art technologies”.

Haha, I love the ‘usual crushed white cardboard box so much of Cal Exotics stuff comes in’. Soooo true. Every box I’ve gotten from them has been mangled.

@jonsbabydoll Me too. Kayla postulated that maybe CE sends us the mangled boxes on purpose, rather than sending them to paying customers. I suppose it would make sense.
