Ooo, what’s that?

Awhile back, I picked up the LELO Liv from one sex toy store or another. I remember seeing it in lime green and thinking, “I’m a purple girl, all the way, but lime green is just too cool to pass up.” I mean, so many sex toy manufacturers stick to pinks and purples, so it was super cool to see a lime green sex toy that wasn’t toxic and didn’t suck.

Then I got this email from LELO, all, “You know that lime green vibe you bought but never reviewed? We just came out with a new and improved version, and we’d love for you to review it!” Okay, they probably had no idea I bought and never reviewed a Liv, but you get the idea.

That purple Liv, up there, is the brand new Liv 2. And I like her…but I’m thinking maybe LELO and I have different definitions of “stronger” and “softer”.

What’d it come in?

LELO’s stuff comes in such beautiful packaging. This vibrator came in a purple paperboard box that matches the color of the silicone outside of a black, sturdy cardboard box with a soft foam insert inside to hold Liv 2 still. This makes them great for gift giving, and even better for storage.

How’s it made?

Liv 2 is about 7 inches long with 4 inches of insertable, firm silicone which LELO is claiming is softer than Liv 1’s but unless they’re talking about firmness, I didn’t find that to be the case. 1’s silicone is much silkier. However, there’s a bit of a bump between the “neck” of the toy and the “head”, and that’s ever so slightly squishier than the bump on 1. When I say ever so slightly, I mean that literally. I don’t think the tiny difference is really noticeable in use. I barely noticed it when I was intentionally squeezing both to see if it even existed.

It’s curved just right to use the head for g-spot stimulation. And the handle, obviously is made of plastic.

On the handle, as you can see above, is the push-button control panel. And with this version of Liv, you don’t have to worry about them getting wet. Liv 2 has the same pulsation variables as Liv 1. You can cycle through the variables with the arrows. It starts on a steady vibration that you can turn up and down via the + and – buttons.

I was kinda thrown off by the fact that Liv 2 doesn’t have a port plug like Liv 1 does. I assume this means this is not necessary, since they’re saying this toy is waterproof. And, of course, Liv 2 is rechargeable. I love that part. Batteries get more expensive every day, it seems.

What’s it for?

Some places are calling this a traditional vibe, but the curve makes it great for g-spot stimulation. It can also be used to stimulate your clitoris and erogenous zones. I’m sure it’d be great for partner play. I’ve only used Liv (1 and 2) for solo play. I mean, if you can consider it solo play if you’re being whipped with a flogger while you’re using it.

How is it?

Pros: Cons:
quality silicone
quiet
rechargeable
deeper vibes than Liv 1
waterproof
took me a little longer to
get off than is normal for me
(which is hardly a con at all)

You wanna hear something funny? Until recently, it’d been so long since I’d masturbated with a vibrator that I had to reteach myself how. No joke.

The thing is, I much prefer a dildo and my fingers to vibration, with very few exceptions. Most vibrators, these days, send me from the beginning of climax straight into oversensitivity. I never really finish cumming. So I end up unsatisfied and pissed off. But I keep buying them, and requesting them, hoping I’ll find that one perfect vibrator that will give me amazing orgasms and let me actually finish them.

Liv 2 isn’t that vibrator, but it’s pretty darn close.

One of my favorite qualities of silicone is the drag that it provides. My clit demands texture and friction when I masturbate. In most cases, just putting a vibe on it and holding it there will produce so little stimulation that I eventually just get annoyed. Of course, I’m a quick cummer, and if I can’t cum within a few minutes, I get annoyed, too. This is partially due to the fact that we don’t always have a lot of time to lay around while I try to get myself off.

One of these days, I’m gonna carve out some time for M and me to just lay around pleasuring ourselves and each other. I miss those moments.

The differences between Liv 1 and Liv 2 aren’t really as pronounced as I was hoping. I mean, 2 is waterpoof, and 1 isn’t. The battery in 2 lasts longer than the battery in 1. When you’re turning 2 off, the light turns off when it reaches the off setting; 1’s light stays on when it reaches the off setting, leaving the user to wonder if it’s actually off.

The vibrations in the two are definitely different. 2’s vibrations are a bit deeper than 1’s. But I don’t know that that translates to “stronger”. In fact, I kinda feel like 1 is stronger, but that could just be because the vibrations are a little on the buzzy side. However, 2’s vibrations definitely penetrate the area being stimulated better than 1’s do, and unlike the vibrations in 1, I actually like 2’s vibrations internally. This isn’t something I usually enjoy, so maybe it’s the type of vibes I don’t like?

In any case, once I got the hang of getting myself off again, I really learned to love this toy. I was able to get off without ruining my orgasm before it was finished, and I enjoyed the orgasms. It just took a little longer to cum than normal. But ya know, that’s okay, because it forces me to lay back and enjoy myself, rather than rushing through pleasure. Makes it great for one of those days we both have time to just fuck off…or ourselves, as the case may be.

Anything else I should know?

Do not submerge this toy in boiling water. I mean, it’s waterproof, but not boiling waterproof. Use a 10% bleach, 90% water solution to wipe it down if you want to disinfect it. Otherwise, just use a non-abrasive antibacterial soap and water.

This toy can be used anally if you’re into that, but if you’re worried about losing it in your butt tunnel, insert it with one of those cool silicone protective rings I’ve been seeing around the net. The late, great Jack Morin said you don’t really have to worry about losing a toy up there in his book Anal Pleasure and Health. He said that, generally speaking, people who have lost toys were just too uptight (pun optional) about the whole experience, and didn’t give their body the time it needed to expel the toy naturally. I’m kinda of the mind that if an expert’s saying it, we should believe it. So, ya know…there’s that.

Also, don’t worry about storing this toy with your other quality silicone. I’ve heard of a couple toys from some little-known companies that have caused reactions, so I’d suggest keeping those toys away from your quality silicone. But quality silicone should never react to other quality silicone when stored together.

Where’d ya get it?

LELO sent me the Liv 2 free of charge in exchange for an honest review. LELO was started in 2003 by a group of guys looking for the perfect sex toy for one of their girl friends (a friend who is a girl). When they hit the toy shops in their area, they found the market lacking, and thus LELO was born. Today, they’re stocked in more than 25,000 retail stores, and you can even find them in airport vending machines.

Simultaneous thoughts: What airport has a Lelo vending machine?/I bet even the vending machine looks swanky.
I love the lime green color option-it’s gender neutral and fun. The vibrations are what worries me. Stronger might not be strong enough!
I’m curious about something though; why do the deeper vibrations feel better to your vagina? Do they stimulate your G-spot and clitoral “legs”?

@ Camryn I can’t believe you read the whole thing. :p

I don’t remember what airport. Someone sent me a picture ages ago. They were in one of the electronics vending machines with, like, iPads and kindles and stuff. So yeah, pretty swanky.

If LELO has been too weak in the past, this might be too weak, too. It’s about on par with Siri. Not really stronger so much as deeper, if that makes sense.

Everything stimulates my g-spot/clitoral legs, but this version of Liv feels better. I dunno. The more buzzy vibes mostly just annoy me when I insert them, and this slightly deeper version doesn’t.
