It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

December 17th, 2009

90_03_36-christmas-decorations_web1So, let’s see.  What are we up to?

Well, it’s that time of year again.  There’s snow on the ground and everyone’s rushing around to find that “perfect gift” for their loved ones.  It’s frickin’ freezing outside and, even with plastic on the windows, our heater is having trouble keeping up.  I am not looking forward to seeing December’s electric and heating bill.  I can’t wait to get out of New York.

That’s not happening any time soon, though.

We borrowed one of A’s fake Christmas trees (Thanks, A!) to avoid the hassle – and extra expenditure – of buying a real one and getting it home and upstairs.  I put it up last night, but I haven’t fluffed or decorated it yet.  It sort of falls over, so I’ve got it leaning against the wall.  I’m not sure how we’re going to stand it upright when we decorate it.  But we’ll figure it out.  I’m hoping, when I fluff it, the weight will even it out enough that it’ll stand on its own.  We’ll see how that goes.

M and I have picked out our Christmas presents.  Because His is so much more expensive than mine, He decided to get me two.  Isn’t He awesome? He’s huge on fairness around the holidays, regardless of the fact that I’m a slave.  Bless Him.  That man is intent on making me happy, whether I like it or not.

I do like it, though.

I’m getting Him an iPod Touch.  He’s wanted one since they were announced.  We’ve been waiting on it because we rarely had enough extra spending money to get it for Him.  But we always break ourselves for Christmas.  Wouldn’t want to break tradition.  And thanks to His raise, Christmas isn’t going to break us this year.  It’s just gonna make things a little tight.

I can’t even begin to say how grateful I am for that.  In Schenectady alone, there are hundreds of families who aren’t going to have anything to give their children this year.  Toys for Tots didn’t have enough to go around, from what I understand.  A friend of mine got the last voucher they had, and there were still at least fifty people behind her in line.

And that’s understandable.  Everyone’s broke these days.

I think, next year, if I remember (Remind me, please!), I’ll do something similar to what AmorousRocker did over at her place.  I thought about picking it up this year, but I’ve got so much on my plate right now I was afraid I’d not be able to get it done.

I remember when my mom used to make us pick one present from under the tree to donate to Toys for Tots.  She always made sure it wasn’t the one we’d been eying all year, or the clothes she’d bought to get us through the winter.  But she also made sure it wasn’t something cheap and lame.

Mom never forgot which package was what gift.  That woman has a memory like an elephant.

Master’s gonna buy me an outfit (probably a dress) and a ring.  It’s absolutely gorgeous. We picked it out together.  I can’t wait till it gets here.

A couple we’ve been hanging out with on occasion (Vanilla couple… sort of.  Perhaps a better way of describing them is “kink aware”.)  is considering having a New Year’s Eve/anniversary party, so we might go to that.  The lady of the couple is hoping to throw a surprise party for her husband’s birthday, and we’ll almost definitely go to that.  And next month is the holiday Christmas party for Master’s company.  We’re definitely going to that.  It’s at a really good restaurant right up the road.  And fat people never turn down free food.

Ooo… Maybe when we pick out my new outfit, it can be something to wear to that.  Matter of fact, it probably should be.  I don’t really have anything all that nice to wear that everyone hasn’t seen me in a hundred times or more.

The birds are doing absolutely awesome.

Baby came out of his cage today all by himself.  And this time, it wasn’t an accident.  He’s really getting the hang of flying.  And he’s not faceplanting as much when he lands.

He made one hell of a landing the other day.  Managed to land on the edge of the table without bashing into his cage door that was hanging only a few inches over the table.

He and Zedd have been chasing each other around Zedd’s cage all day.  Not really fighting.  Just… Well, it’s more or less a big brother/baby brother situation.  Zedd doesn’t want to be bothered, but Baby wants to hang out.  And Zedd’s being super awesome about it by just walking away, rather than beating the shit out of the little turd.

Baby’s figured out how to climb in and out of Zedd’s cage through the bars.  He played with all of Zedd’s toys.  And then, when he got tired, he flew over to his cage and climbed back in all by himself.  My Baby’s not so much of a baby anymore.

Zedd’s been ridiculously lovey.  He’s even begging Master for kisses now.  And Master, being the big softy He really is, is loving every second of it.  He can’t walk passed Zedd’s cage without Zedd whining and putting his head down for kisses.  It’s so. friggin. cute.  I’m gonna have to snap a picture, one of these days.

Other than that, we’re just chillin’.  Enjoying what time we have together when He’s not working and trying to fit everything we want to do between work emergencies.

It’s rough.  Especially without a car.  We end up ordering out, more often than not, cause Him having enough free time to go shopping is rare.  We try to curb that as best we can with the meat market down the road and the convenience store across the street, but there are some things you just can’t buy in places like that.

Soon.  We’ll have a car soon.

So… Now that you know how we’re doing, tell us how you’re doing.  We’d love to know.  🙂

    Rayne,

I’m visiting my mom and her husband for the holidays and trying to get some writing in (I fell way behind duringb the quarter). It’s going to be a very vanilla holiday for me, but that was true whether I was here or at home (being single sucks sometimes). Becasue I left the Tuesday after finals, I had to do all my Christmas shopping in a few days, without a car. Thank God for friends willing to ferry me around.

I had no idea birds could be such personable pets. I’ve always thought of nthem as pretty, living, decorations. Apparently, they’re capable of very distinct personalities, just like a cat or dog. I’m glad Zedd recovered from whatever was wrong with him a while back. It sounds like the two are going to be close buddies.

Merry Christmas to the both of you. May the new year see you in less debt, better digs, and with your kink kinked.

    Dave

@dweaver999 Actually, to be perfectly honest, I’d have to say my birds have more personality than any dog I’ve ever owned. Except maybe Jade (my rotty). But I still say that dog had brain damage. She was a nut.

Merry Christmas, to you too! Hope your holidays are wonderful.

Wow. The birds are so fun. I like kitties more, but your birds seem to have a good personality. And poor Baby – faceplanting.

jor and I won’t be buying each other gifts this Christmas because we can’t afford it. It’s not too bad and we’ll just have to wait until January, but it’s definitely going to be a bare-bones Christmas. That ring he’s getting you though is gorgeous. 🙂 Really. It looks awesome.

Fake trees are so much cooler than real ones. Real ones shed everywhere. Ick.
