Product Review: Ryder by Tantus

January 8th, 2010

312NTlpBRPL._SY355_Ooo, what’s that?

That’s only the plug I’ve heard the most about, second only to the Njoy line. Tantus’s very own Ryder. (FYI, Tantus has updated Ryder since I posted this review. The silicone is now matte. I have yet to try the updated version.)

What’d it come in?

The Ryder came in this little clear plastic box with red trim. It has its claims to fame written on the box in red and white. No naked ladies decorate this box, but, I mean, look at the Ryder. No one’s going to see that thing through the clear plastic and wonder what it is. It’s obvious.

How’s it made?

You kidding? It’s from Tantus! It’s 100% Ultra-Premium Platinum Silicone! That means it’s nonporous, phthalate free, nontoxic, hypoallergenic, odorless, flavorless and dishwasher safe.

It’s about four inches long and has a diameter of about one and one-half inches. That awesome little base is somewhere between one-half and three-quarters of an inch wide and flexible

It’s a little tacky to the touch, but that’s normal for shiny silicone. And it’s squishy and wobbly! I made an ass of myself wiggling it all over the place until M got home the day it arrived. And then right up my ass it went.

What’s it for?

I hate to say it, but…If you don’t know what a butt plug’s for, you’re in worse shape than I thought. This particular butt plug, however, is awesomely designed for comfortable extended wear, as well as beginner, intermediate and experienced anal play. However, if you’re just starting out, remember, slow and steady wins the race and using lube doesn’t make you a wuss. Honest.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
squishy
body safe
comfortable
tacky to the touch

The only thing I didn’t like about this toy is the one thing that turns me off to most butt plugs: the tackiness of its surface. This downside to most sex toy materials is the only thing that keeps me from loving inanimate objects in my butt. But you know what? It’s fixable with lube. So it hardly even counts as a downside, if you ask me.

I had a little trouble with insertion the first time, and I didn’t even put it in! M did. And He was really nice about it. Went slow and everything. But I didn’t realize how long the shaft was and sort of clenched before I should have. Totally my fault, not the plug’s.

Other than that, this thing is hella comfy. Perfect for extended wear or a quick masturbation session. Easily inserted and removed without “shocking the sphincter muscles” (direct quote from Tantus’s site). Doesn’t stain or retain fluids or odors. And that teeny-tiny base would make it feel almost like you don’t have anything protruding from your butt hole, if it weren’t for the divine feeling of fullness the shaft gives.

Because it’s so soft, it molds beautifully to your insides. Its length and shape make it ideal for bouncing on. The give makes insertion and removal a breeze, so long as you remember the shaft is longer than, say, a Pure Plug. And with a little extra lube, the base doesn’t rub your skin raw (I dunno if anyone else has that problem with jelly, rubber and silicone plugs, but I do.). Overall, this is a really well-made plug.

How do you care for it?

Boil it. Wipe it down with a bleach/water solution. Wash it with a nonabrasive antibacterial soap. Use a toy spray or wipe. Or throw it in the top drawer of the dishwasher. Then toss it in a bag with your other silicone toys and stuff it in a drawer out of sight.

Water based lube is best with this toy. Silicone might degrade it.

Where’d ya get it?

The awesome folks at TabuToys.com sent me the Ryder, free of charge, in exchange for an honest review of the toy. TabuToys.com offers discreet, private shopping to men and women of all sexual orientations. Aside from their selection of over 3000 hand-picked toys, they offer good reading material such as Sex Toys 101 and Buying Your First Vibrator.

I totally feel you on the tackiness aspect, that bothers me too. I have a Tantus A-bomb however, that has a sort of velvety texture that’s never tacky! I love it. I wonder why Tantus doesn’t make all their toys like that?

@ K2theF A-bomb? You know, until now, I hadn’t heard of the A-bomb. I have the B-bomb, but I haven’t used it yet. And you know, that’s a good question.

The A-bomb is fantastic, but really, really huge. I’ve had it for about 6 months and it’s always a struggle, but when I conquer it, it’s glorious.
