Product Review: Intima Silk Blindfold by LELO

September 24th, 2010

LELO-Silk-Blindfold-red-intimaOoo, what’s that?

If you keep up with the new products being put out by some of the higher-end companies, I’m sure that, by now, you’ve heard about LELO’s beautiful silk restraints.  Oh, you haven’t? Well, this is me, telling you now.  One of the leading companies in luxury sex toys has introduced luxury bondage gear, and boy is it beautiful.  Talk about sensual bondage.

That right there? Is the Intima Silk Blindfold by LELO, available in purple, black and brick (and I sorta wish I’d picked brick, now, though the purple is lovely).

What’d it come in?

It came wrapped in sturdy tissue paper, inside a thick black cardboard box, inside an elegant, thin, black cardboard box with a picture of the blindfold on the front, and a description, material, and care instructions (sort of) on the back.

How’s it made?

This blindfold is 100% silk.  It’s solid on one side, and Jacquard (which, for those of you who don’t know, or didn’t spend a year working in the bedding and bath sections of Bed, Bath and Beyond, mostly just means they changed the direction of the weave to produce a pattern in the fabric) on the other.  And it sort of resembles, at first glance, a silk neck tie, except for the distinct eye and nose pieces, the three inches of super strong elastic encased in gathered silk in the back, and single-direction angles on the tips.

When folded at the nose piece, and measured to the tips of the extra ribbony bits, the Intima Silk Blindfold is about thirty-two inches long.  The nose piece is one and one-half inches wide, and tapers out to two and a quarter inches for the eye pieces.  The extra ribbony bits are about two inches wide at their widest point.  The inside of the part that goes around the eyes measures twenty-two inches when not stretched, and the elastic back stretches to about seven inches, allowing for a head of about twenty-seven inches to fit inside.

The material is soft and flexible, but it feels strong and durable.  And the stitches appear to be well crafted.  This blindfold should hold up well to frequent use.

What’s it for?

A silk blindfold can be used for all sorts of different bondage play.  There’s not much that’s more erotic, for me, than being trussed up in soft, elegant restraints, only to be treated like a piece of meat.  But one of the most popular fantasies you hear about is the romantic dinner, and experimental bondage play, and candlelit bedrooms.  These restraints would be perfect for an evening like that.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
absolutely gorgeous
stays put
makes it impossible to open my eyes
feels sturdy
way too tight
Jacquard pattern is on the inside

Meh…

If you read my review of the hood M made me get, you’ll remember that I have a big head.  It’s about twenty-three inches around at the brow, which is about where it seems to be the most functional.  But wearing it like that will eventually give me a migraine, because it is super, super tight.  Even wearing it a few minutes is painful.

I have managed to figure out a way to finagle it so that it’s a little more comfortable, but it doesn’t really stay put that way.

Regardless of how I wear it, it’s next to impossible to open my eyes, and when I do manage to get one open, I can’t see anymore than the tiniest sliver of the side of my nose.  And the tightness sort of adds to the whole “damsel in distress” feel.  I mean, I figure if I really were being held captive, my captor wouldn’t much care how tight the blindfold he tied around my head was, right?

So… I’m torn.  Because it’s gorgeous.  And it certainly has its uses.  But I think it would eventually cut off the circulation to my brain.  And somehow, I think that would be bad.

Anything else I should know?

So… uh… This blindfold, being made of silk, is dry clean only.  Which would be fine, cause I doubt it’ll be pricey, and it’s not far to the closest dry cleaner.  But… I’m not sure I’m ready to bring my blindfold to the sweet old lady next door to clean for me.  Especially since the probability of it needing to be cleaned because it’s got semen all over it is rather high.

But that’s okay, cause you can pick up Dryel’s home dry cleaning system (or any of the others, like Woolite’s, or Bounce’s) at a retailer near you, and it’ll save on the rest of your dry cleaning bill, too, cause I mean… Why buy a whole system for home dry cleaning for a piece of silk not much bigger than a necktie?

As for storage, that’s up to you.  Hang it on the bed post.  Put it on your tie rack.  Me, I fold it up neatly just the way it came, tuck it back inside its pretty tissue paper and boxes, and stuff it in a drawer with the rest of the restraints.

Where’d ya get it?

We really hated ours. It hasn’t seen the light of day since we got it because it is so tight. And the price is so high for something we couldn’t even use because it was painful. We did end up cutting out the elastic piece on the blindfold and just using the sashes to tie it on, though, but it doesn’t always stay put. But it’s better than pain.

@Kayla Yeah, I was thinking about doing that. Did it detract from the look at all?

Hmm, I guess it would be pretty gross in reality, but I think it sounds pretty hot, making my girlfriend put this piece of cloth on her face that is soaked with dried cum from multiple sessions…

I love LELO’s other stuff. Haven’t tried these though. Do you think they are worth the investment? I don’t mind spending money on branded products but only if they will last! I bought some cuffs from Masters Desire last year (www.mastersdesire.com) which were amazing! They are still good as new. My LELO toys are also going strong, but with the blindfold being silk, I’m wondering how long it would last?

@Karen Woodstock Well, for sure, LELO’s silk kink gear isn’t meant for, like, grabbing onto and pulling with all your might, but silk’s a lot stronger than it looks. If you take care of it, it should last a while, I’d think.
