Rayne's Birthday Giveaway

It’s my birthday, and I’ll give stuff away if I want to!

Seriously, though, today is my birthday. I’m thirty-six, today, and I’m so stupidly excited about it because it’s the sixth and six times six is thirty-six. We all have our quirks, I guess.

I’m actually pretty excited about getting older. I made a promise to M to grow old with him, and every birthday marks another year I’ve kept that promise.

There have been an insane amount of technological advances, from the size of our phones, to the way we treat fatal illnesses. We’ve still got a long way to go, but pretty much everything about how society works has changed during my thirty-six years. I’m really excited to see what else we come up with as I age.

I have a son in the National Guard, a daughter who was accepted into a school for smart kids, and a child who recently came out as pansexual and gender fluid. I’m rebuilding my relationship with my mother, understanding that I’m never going to change my father (who has made a liar out of me and decided that he will, in fact, vote for Trump if he’s the Republican nominee), and realizing that I don’t have to like my family’s politics to love them. I’m actually taking an interest in my health, and doing things that I would have previously let my anxiety keep me from doing. Read more…

“Cheer Melen Up Without Hurting His Back!” Giveaway Winners!

June 17th, 2014 2 comments

giveaway sponsor logosFirst things first: Thank you SO. FUCKING. MUCH. for all the love and support despite the fact that I’ve been sort of checked out through this whole thing. And a huge, ginormous thank you to SheVibe, Tantus, Lovehoney, Pink, and Gun Oil for supplying the prizes so I could make a crazy Internet gesture for my ailing man.

Second things second: M is getting better.

There are still some scary moments. Like when his foot went numb. And the way his back swells up if he sits too much or walks too long.

But we spent a whole week fucking until 3am every night (which, surprisingly, didn’t make his back swell up, but did cause him a little bit of pain), and we’ve done SO MUCH talking, and we’ve connected on levels we haven’t in a while, and I finally stopped biting back the emotional pain I’ve been dealing with from watching him go through this and started talking to him about it. This ordeal–though insanely painful and still incredibly stressful–has been good for us. How fucked up is that? Read more…

It’s the “Cheer Melen Up Without Hurting His Back!” giveaway!

M’s in pain. Lots of pain. I gave a basic description of what’s been going on here, if you’re interested.

At the time of that writing, we’d decided to talk to a chiropractor about the situation before committing to surgery because M really didn’t want surgery. And we did, but if we weren’t optimistic before talking to the chiropractor, we were even less optimistic after our conversation (despite the fact that it would have been super cool to be able to say that M’s doc used to work for the New York Giants). Not only because it kinda sounded like hooey, but also because M’s insurance doesn’t cover what the chiropractor wanted to do because the medical world isn’t sure, yet, that it isn’t hooey.

We had to go back to M’s neurosurgeon to find that out. The chiropractor told us most insurances didn’t cover it, but he didn’t tell us that they didn’t cover it because there’s no confidence that it solves the problem.

So…we decided against the chiropractor’s suggestion, and scheduled the surgery. Read more…

Something to Read for the Holidays #Giveaway

erotica

I’ve been trying to get back to reading, this year. They say the more you read, the more creative your writing, the higher your I.Q., the longer your brain works…blah, blah, blah. For me, though, it’s been about learning. From erotica to non-fiction, if it sounds interesting, I’m reading it. I’m hoping to read even more next year, and have set myself a goal of 50 books. We’ll see how that goes.

I’ve been really enjoying reading. Even the few pieces I’ve really hated. It’s been an amazing experience. M and I have gotten to know (as much as one can through reading their writing, and talking to them on Twitter) quite a few amazing authors in various genres. We’ve both learned so much through this experience; both book knowledge, and more personal, humbling lessons.

Despite a few set backs (losing my job, the computer and car breaking, having to move into a more expensive home), over all, it has been an amazing year (getting our life back somewhat, being able to find peace in our own home, realizing we’ve actually survived the set backs without any major problems), and we owe part of that to living in an environment where we’re able to read again.

So this holiday season, we wanted to give our readers the opportunity to enjoy the same experience. And Cleis Press graciously agreed to help us out. Read more…
